I still remember laying on a mattress on the floor of our living room at my moms when I was growing up and watching WCW and WWF wrestling with my brothers. Like most boys during the 90s, I was a wrestling fanatic. My brothers and I were more WCW fans, but we watched WWF and were huge fans of all the great wrestlers at the time including Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Sting, Andre the Giant, Goldberg, and of course, The Undertaker, just to name a few.
Well, one wrestler that I never really did like was The Rock. Everyone loved The Rock, but there was something about him that I just never liked and no matter who he was wrestling, I was always rooting against him.
As I grew up I continued to disregard The Rock every chance that I got. His movies sucked and he was a tool. Well, about a year ago, out of nowhere one of The Rock’s posts from his Facebook Page showed up on my News Feed and my opinion of him has been changed ever since.
The Rock is an Inspiration
Once I “Liked” Dwayne The Rock Johnson’s Facebook Page and started getting his posts in my News Feed I started to like him more and more every day. My childhood opinion of Dwayne was completely wrong. Sure, I’m a little jealous of his huge muscles and binders full of money, but The Rock is a good guy who has worked very hard to get where he is at.
It’s easy to see from The Rock’s posts that he is working hard to give back and use his success as an inspiration for others to do the same. It is amazing to me when people go out of their way to help others and it’s even more amazing when people who could basically own the world do it. Most of us want to help others so we feel significant. It’s our way of providing value and then we feel better about ourselves. I don’t think Dwayne needs anyone to tell him he’s awesome to feel significant, but he’s proving to me through his Facebook Page that he’s just a good person.
The Rock also posts quite a bit about giving back to his family and friends, which is something that I can relate to and appreciate.
Great Use of Social Media
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson currently has over 30,000,000 Likes on Facebook. I’m not the only the one who’s following him and I’m sure that I am not the only one that has been inspired by him and had my opinion of him changed through his use of social media.
The Rock has branded himself well and he’s doing a great job of using social media to continue to build that brand and grow his audience. It’s exciting for me to watch and realize because it’s something that I have been focusing on for a few years too. I really did not care for him at all prior to my engagement on his Facebook Page and now not only do I look forward to his posts, but I’m even considering going to see his new movie and I’m definitely going to check out his new TV series, Wake Up Call.
Are you using social media to your advantage? Are you making people “Like” you and your brand? Whether you are or not, go “Like” The Rock’s Facebook Page and take notes. This guy knows what he’s doing. Model those that you inspire to be.
Now, let’s make some money before The Rock layeth the smackdown on your candy ass!
