A major factor that can make or break your affiliate marketing campaign on a lot of different traffic sources is your clickthrough rate, which is commonly abbreviated CTR. The CTR is percent of users who view your ad and end up clicking on it. It is dependent on the campaign creative or banner you are using to drive traffic to your landing page. The better your banner is at grabbing the user’s attention the higher your CTR will be. If you are bidding a CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions) rather than a CPC (cost per click) then the success of your campaign lies heavily on being able to produce a good CTR. If you are new to affiliate marketing that is a lot to take in, so let’s look at an example.
Facebook Bidding Example
With paid Facebook Ads, you have have the option of choosing whether you want to bid CPM or CPC (unless you’re running a Sponsored Stories campaign). Let’s say that you setup two campaigns, one bidding a CPM and one bidding a CPC. With both campaigns you see the following results:
- 10,000 impressions
- 10 clicks
- 0.1% CTR
Facebook is charging you a $0.50 CPC for your CPC campaign and a $0.25 CPM for you CPM campaign. So, your 10 clicks on the CPC campaign cost you $5. However, on your CPM campaign your 10 clicks only cost you $2.50! It’s likely that as your CTR increases your CPM will drop (your CPC will usually drop as well, but not as significantly in my experience) so you will probably get the traffic even cheaper than that. It’s easy to see how generating a good CTR on your affiliate campaigns can really pay off. Facebook, Plenty of Fish, and most media buys are just a few examples of traffic sources where you have the opportunity to bid a CPM. So, what can you do to help keep your CTR up? Create batches of banners that are proven to generate a good CTR with CrazyCTR!

Yes, it’s really that simple.
CrazyCTR Sample Banners
With CrazyCTR you can pick and choose the tweaks you make to your banner, create a custom tweak, or generate a random tweak with the different variations available including:
- Border colors
- Border thicknesses (and glow)
- Border shapes
- Image effects
- Image distortion
Personally, I like to work with everything but the image distortion. I can see how distorting the image could help increase your CTR, but I also want people to know what they’re clicking. Here are some random samples of all the different tweaks:
As you can see, not all tweaks will work well with all images, but you can see the cool effects you can apply to your banners.
The thing that really impresses me about CrazyCTR is not only the awesome ways you can tweak your images to create banners with high CTRs, but how easy to use the interface is. I have been in contact with the creator of CrazyCTR since he first started the project and one thing he has always focused on is making the tool as easy to use as possible. He just released an update this week that has taken something that was really easy to use and made it even easier. Check it out!
With a few clicks you have hundreds of variations of your image ready to test on your campaign.
