Content is a very important aspect to look into before starting a website or blog. It is also very crucial to ensure that this content is informative, well researched, and properly written. In this article we will review some of the basic tips that help a lot in content writing for effective search engine optimization (SEO). Stick to the topic It is very important to grasp the content of your writing properly. In so doing you should be very careful in order to remain relevant and deliver the objective of the subject matter. If, for example, you are writing a business related article, you need to do a thorough research within the field of business and totally desist from deviating into unrelated tangents. Have good content Good content has a very huge potential of drawing a large audience to your site. No matter what the subject matter it is, try to think beyond the benefits of the search engine optimization. Be sure to connect with your audience by creating a well written content that grabs their attention and keeps them wanting to come back to your site. Use the appropriate keyword density A good keyword density is very ideal for search engine optimization. However, you should be careful not to over apply it to an extent that your content becomes fluffy and unreadable. Be sure to stick to the appropriate article length which should basically fall between 300 to 1,000 words (I usually aim for at least 500 word articles). Use meta descriptions A meta description is a 150 character brief description or summary of your content. It is essential in content writing for effective search engine optimization. Always ensure that your article has a unique meta description which should also accommodate the keywords. Most search engines use this and will be able to easily identify your content and expose you to a wider audience. If you are using WordPress there are a bunch of great SEO plugins that make it easy to do this. Be original In the process of writing content for effective SEO, it is very crucial to remain original and innovative. Simply copy and pasting other peoples work amounts to plagiarism and you should never ever resort to using this strategy. Always write your own work, bring fresh new ideas to the market, and stand out of the rest. One of the best ways of coming up with original work is through thorough research, intensive reading, and brain storming. Write and tag hierarchically In order for major search engines to prioritize you content, it needs to be properly arranged and structured. To do this, you should ensure that you apply the appropriate tags for your content. Ordinarily it is advisable to use H1 tags when writing your titles, H2 tags while writing your subtitles, and so forth. This basic strategy gives your writing a big boost by motivating you to put your strongest points first. Accompany your content with relative tags In writing good content for SEO purposes, it is advisable to always accompany your content with the appropriate and intriguing images. Basically, ensure that you use images that are not copyrighted by any other person or company as this would amount to infringement. It is advisable to choose eye catching and high quality images in order to compliment your good work. I usually will search Google Images to find quality images to go with my content and then edit them as needed. There are also a lot of great stock photo websites available with just a few Google searches.

  1. As always, quality input and guidance from the Luke Man!

  2. Very quality article about writting quality articles. I find that longer articles (1000-1500 words) can be really boring, so I always write an article between 400-600 words where I always explain the most important. I understand that longer articles means more links in it and it is probably better for SEO but I write articles for people not for Search Engines.
