PeerFly Banner Rotator

new peerfly banner rotator

One of the goals at PeerFly is to provide our publishers with all the tools required in order for them to be successful. Not only is this a company mission, but it is my personal mission as well. The main reason I write in this blog is to share my knowledge and experience with affiliate marketing so you have an easier time being successful than I did.

About a year and a half ago I made a site called PeerFlyBanners.com. The site provided a script that allowed you to easily rotate the banners available on our offers at PeerFly. Although it works pretty well, has been used by over 1,000 PeerFly publishers, and has generated nearly 20,000,000 banner impressions, a better option has finally been created.

I am happy to announce that we have officially launched our own in-house rotator finally at PeerFly. It is much better than my script and here are a few reasons why.

The New Banner Rotator Features

The new PeerFly banner rotator, named Ads By PeerFly, is much more complex than the simple banner rotator I previously provided my publishers. Not only is it more stable because it is being hosted on our amazing servers at PeerFly, but it will also be updated more frequently because we have our in-house programming team working on it. Over time I expect this new tool to be more than you can even picture at the moment and I have no doubt it will help my publishers make a lot more money.

On-Page Rotation

The banner rotator is setup to automatically rotate banners while your users are on the page. After a banner has been displayed for 15 seconds it automatically rotates to the next best banner based on our automated optimization. This should help increase your CTR and that should help you make more money!

Keyword Search

You can now filter banners by keyword term. So, if you want to rotate the iPhone offers from PeerFly simply enter the keyword iPhone and the rotator will specifically look for iPhone offers to display. You can also break this down by vertical or verticals (iPhone email submits).

Country Specific Offers

One of the features missing most from PeerFlyBanners.com was the ability to only display banners for offers that allow traffic from the visitor’s country. This was the first thing we added to the new banner rotator. You do not have to worry about your visitors being redirected because they are clicking on banners for offers that do not allow traffic from their country anymore! This will help increase your conversion rate and revenue.

Display or Hide Adult Banners

Another feature not previously supported by PeerFlyBanners was the ability to hide or display adult banners. You can now choose to display all banners, never display adult banners, or only display adult banners.

I have also created a WordPress Plugin you can download and install on your WordPress blog to easily add the banner rotator script without having to touch any code. Once you download and install the plugin on your blog you will see a new PeerFly Banners Rotator widget on your Widgets page. You can drag and drop that into any sidebar on your blog and create your rotator using a simple form (shown to the right).

You can add this widget as many times as you want to as many sidebars as you want. I recommend a maximum of 5, but feel free to test out various locations to see what works best for you.

I am hoping to get this plugin added to the WordPress Plugin Directory soon and once it is you will be able to update it directly from your WordPress admin area.

I’m really excited to see how beneficial our new banner rotator is going to be for our publishers at PeerFly. We are already serving millions of impressions a day and I expect that as we continue to see this tool grow and we’re able to optimize it and add new features everyone is going to enjoy the amazing results it has to offer.

If you have any questions about the new banner rotator or the WordPress plugin that goes with it please let me know. I’d also appreciate some feedback so don’t forget to comment once you get it all set up on your site. Let’s make some money!

Using Tweet Old Post for Blog Traffic

tweet old post

If you run a blog then you know how hard it is sometimes to come up with ideas to blog about. Then, you finally figure out what you are going to write about and spend a bunch of time (sometimes hours) writing your blog post. Finally, you do one last read through your post editing as you go and push Publish! The traffic comes in for a few days, but then as time goes on the traffic starts to drop off. Well, I know a good way to help rejuvenate that traffic and keep the visitors coming in so all your hard work really pays off. All you need is a Twitter account with some followers and an awesome WordPress plugin called Tweet Old Post.

Tweet Old Post is a free WordPress plugin that allows you to post a random “old” post from your blog on your Twitter account. You can control which posts Tweet Old Post chooses from, but it will choose a random post and tweet it on your Twitter automatically at a given time increment that you decide. It’s automated traffic to your blog posts!

Download and Install Tweet Old Post

At this point in your blogging career you should know how to download and install a WordPress plugin, but if not a few Google searches or YouTube videos should be enough to get you through that part of the process. You can download from the Add New menu within your WordPress Plugins backend or download it from the WordPress plugin directory. Once you have downloaded and installed Tweet Old Post you should see it in your WordPress admin menu. You can click that and update your settings.

Tweet Old Post Settings

One of the best things about Tweet Old Post is the vast amount of options available in the settings. You want to use the plugin to get more traffic from your Twitter followers, but you also do not want to post so often that you annoy them and they stop reading your tweets or unfollow you. You can adjust the settings to make sure you are getting the most out of the plugin without hurting your relationships with your followers.

The settings I use for Tweet Old Post are shown to the right. Here is a breakdown of what you can do with each option to keep your followers happy.

Tweet Content

When I post a new blog article and tweet about it I begin the tweet with Fresh on LPF! so that my followers know that it’s a brand new post and not one that I’ve reposted using Tweet Old Post. The automated posts just include the title and the blog post URL. However, you can set up your Tweet Old Post to post just the beginning body of the tweet or the title and body.

I’ve mixed and matched the tweet content over the time I’ve been using Tweet Old Post to keep the automated tweets fresh and the clicks coming in.

Include Link

I am not sure why you wouldn’t want to include the link to your article, but it’s an option.

Fetch URL from custom field

You can choose what URL shortener to use when posting your link on your Twitter or if you are using a plugin to create your own custom short URL you can use this option to use that link instead. For example, if you use YOURLS then you can enter yourls_shorturl to use your YOURLS short link.

Use URL shortener?

If you already use a URL shortener when posting your blog post articles on your Twitter I suggest using the same when with your automated tweets from Tweet Old Post. They have many shortener options available.

Minimum interval between tweets

You can set the minimum time between tweets automatically made by Tweet Old Post. The default is 4 hours, which I think it way too frequent. I have my frequency set at every 48 hours, but every once in awhile I’ll choose to manually tweet an old post. You can set a frequency you’re happy with that is getting response from your followers, but not causing you to be an annoyance.

Minimum age of post to be eligible for tweet

Because I tweet about all my new articles when I publish them, I have my Tweet Old Post setup so that a post must be at least a day old before it can be tweeted automatically. If you post more frequently you can choose to wait a week, a month, or whatever interval you want before a post can be eligible to be posted automatically using Tweet Old Post.

Categories to Omit from tweets

I choose to post all of my published articles on my Twitter, but if you have certain articles you do not want to be tweeted using Tweet Old Post you can place them in a category and have Tweet Old Post ignore them.

In just a few minutes, you can literally start driving hundreds if not thousands of pageviews to your blog every month. I get about 33% of my social traffic from Tweet Old Post. Most of the people who click on the links in my Twitter feed are returning visitors to my blog. Returning visitors are more likely to subscribe to my newsletter if they haven’t already, so the returning traffic is very variable. Tweet Old Post drives that return traffic for free!

Take advantage of your social reach and monetize your traffic using Tweet Old Post. Let me know if you have any questions and let’s make some money!

Mask Your Affiliate Links on WordPress with Pretty Link

Pretty Link

WordPress is by far the best blogging platform and content management system available in my opinion and I know a lot of my affiliates use it to develop sites to promote our affiliate offers at PeerFly. Using WordPress to promote affiliate offers is smart because there are already a bunch of great plugins available to make your life easier, including some great free ones. One example that I have been using for a few years now on my affiliate blogs and this blog is Pretty Link.

Pretty Link is a free WordPress plugin that allows you to easily mask your affiliate links. Masking your affiliate links simply means hiding them with a redirect. You can do this yourself by setting up your own redirect page, but with Pretty Link you can do it directly within your WordPress admin without any coding required. Here is an example:

http://www.lukepeerfly.com/join redirects you to my PeerFly referral link: http://peerfly.com/?r=386

So, I can give people a link with my domain in it when promoting PeerFly. This is great for promoting affiliate links because it hides the fact that it’s an affiliate link. This will usually help increase your conversion rate and it also gives you full control over your links. For example, when I was promoting the survey for #1 Affiliate Manager and Affiliate Network by PerformInsider.com I setup my own masked link and once the survey was over I had that link just redirect to LukePeerFly.com so if anyone was still seeing and clicking that link in emails or on social networks they’d go to my blog instead of a dead survey page. By setting up my own redirect with Pretty Link I was also able to track every single click I sent to the survey with Pretty Link’s hit tracker.

Installing Pretty Link on your WordPress is simple. Just head over to Plugins -> Add New within your WordPress backend and search for Pretty Link. Once you’ve installed it you can add new links in your backend and then track them on the Hits page. I’m not going to do a screencast or anything like that because if you have WordPress installed and want to give it a try it’s really simple. Of course, you are welcome to contact me if you have any questions.

If you are looking for something a little more advanced to manage your affiliate link redirects you might want to try creating your own link shortener with YOURLS.

WordPress Plugin WPtouch is AWESOME

wptouch featured

Today I stumbled upon a pretty awesome plugin for WordPress that I wanted to share. I know a lot of my PeerFly publishers are working with mobile traffic and are busy creating mobile optimized landing pages using jQuery Mobile for their campaigns, but today I found something that seems like it would probably be a lot easier.

WPtouch

So, what is WPtouch? It’s a plugin for WordPress that allows you to quickly create a mobile optimized version of your blog within a few minutes and it requires zero coding or theme modifications! Sound too good to be true? Check it out:

wptouch example WordPress Plugin WPtouch is AWESOME

It works amazingly well and is really easy to setup.

How to add WPtouch to your blog and make it mobile optimized

The steps to installing WPtouch is the same as any other WordPress plugin. Simply search for WPtouch in the Add New part of the Plugins section of your WordPress backend or download and install it manually from the WPtouch page on WordPress.

Once you’ve installed and activated the plugin you are pretty much setup. If you view your blog on a mobile device you will see the default layout of WPtouch. You can edit the settings and theme within the settings page to fit your needs. I simply removed the tags, show the entire title, and changed the icon for mine (screenshot above).

Create a mobile optimized landing page using WordPress and WPtouch?

So, here’s my thoughts. A lot of people use WordPress to create their landing pages for their affiliate marketing campaigns. Why couldn’t you create a blog to promote a product/offer and use WPtouch to make it mobile optimized and send traffic to it through AdMob or InMobi like you would any other mobile campaign? I’m not trying to generate a whole new epidemic of flogs, but if you have a legit WordPress blog you’re asking traffic to you might be able to get mobile traffic to convert as well if you had a mobile optimized version of it.

I am going to setup WPtouch on our PeerFly blog and suggest you set it up on your blogs too. The smartphone industry is growing and there’s a lot of traffic out there that’s really cheap to buy right now. Hop on board and start making money before everyone else does :)
