Running Mobile Traffic To Your Own Landing Page

mobile money

I think most affiliates are aware that mobile is the future of affiliate marketing. Sure, people will still have computers and your traditional website traffic is only going to continue to increase, but overall, the smartphone market is increasing and pretty much everyone is using the internet on their phone now as well. For example, Facebook now has 425,000,000 active mobile users monthly, which is about 40% of their traffic. Not everyone is as comfortable on their phone as they are a computer, but we are quickly getting to that point. So, how can you take advantage of all this traffic? If you are on my mailing list (Affiliate Manager Exclusive) then a few weeks ago you received a list of my favorite mobile ad networks.

Mobile Ad Networks

These networks have a ton of mobile traffic and the prices are pretty cheap. Currently I am pushing traffic through InMobi and their minimum CPC is $0.05 ($0.06 suggested). With a $50 minimum deposit and a $10 minimum budget per ad, you can get quite a bit of data really cheap. I am going to give you a nice tip to get started though and this is something my buddies Ruck and Ryan over at the IMGrind also suggested. Prequalify your mobile traffic with a mobile optimized landing page.

Mobile Optimized Poll/Survey

This is something I have been testing for quite awhile and I am pretty happy overall with the results. In the example to the right, you can see I have built a pretty simple mobile optimized landing page using jQuery Mobile and the jQuery Mobile ThemeRoller. This lander has not been my best, but it has performed relatively well. So, what am I trying to accomplish by using it?

With this simple landing page I am trying to get engagement from the user. They clicked my ad while visiting some mobile website or app, but that doesn’t mean they are actually interested in helping me make money. I am putting a poll/survey in front of them to gain their interest. People enjoying giving their opinion on things so I ask them about something they can relate to, eating out for dinner. As I mentioned, this page is built with jQuery Mobile so it should display pretty well on nearly any device, but especially well on Android phones, iPhones, and iPod touches. I have a short intro paragraph, header, three options, and a submit button. Simple is critical when you’re working with mobile!

Once they submit their answer I am redirecting them to an email submit. The nice thing about building a mobile lander and presenting them with that first is if you get engagement from the user you can then push something that isn’t mobile optimized and although it may not convert quite as well as a mobile optimized offer, it should still convert. I’ve tested direct linking to your typical email submit landing page and it almost never works out well. With something like this though you are much more likely to see a nice return.

With my mobile campaigns I have run about 200,000 clicks to various offers from different sources and using different landing pages. With this testing I have learned a few things that will definitely help you along the way.

Mobile Promotion Tips

  1. Use a mobile optimized landing page to presell or prequalify the visitor.
  2. Target smartphones.
  3. If you’re sending the visitor to an email submit after your mobile optimized lander, make sure it has a simple landing page with a large form field and call to action.
  4. Building your own mailing list using Aweber and pre-popping on the “Thank You” page works.
  5. Split test multiple offers.

This information should help push you in the right direction. There are quite a few really great threads on IMGrind about pushing mobile traffic so if you’re a member make sure you take a look through their mobile forum. If not, you should read my IMGrind review and sign up!

Mobile Friendly PeerFly Stats from PFStats.com

With my projects, it is always my goal to make websites or services that will help my PeerFly publishers or improve on the features we already have at PeerFly. We have a mobile page where our publishers can view some of their earnings, but it’s nothing really special. Well, I decided to go ahead and try to improve our mobile interface and created PFStats.com.

PFStats is a mobile web app built with jQuery Mobile that will work on nearly all smartphones and even some older phones. You can create your PFStats page in just 3 easy steps:

  1. Enter your email and PeerFly API key at PFStats.com.
  2. Open your email on your phone.
  3. Click the link generated to open your PeerFly stats on your mobile phone!

It’s that easy.

Mobile Friendly PeerFly Affiliate Stats

Once you open your PFStats page on your phone you should be presented with a screen similar to the one on the right (depending on your phone). This page has been created using the jQuery Mobile ThemeRoller and should update based on your phone model. With your PFStats web app you have access to your:

  • Current Unpaid Balance
  • Paid Balance
  • Total Referrals
  • Past weeks earnings

If you click the Recent button at the bottom of the page you will be taken to a page that has a complete breakdown of your recent affiliate and referral earnings on your PeerFly account.

iPhone Users
If you have an iPhone you can get the full screen mode that is shown in the image on the right (not the regular browser view) by clicking the middle option button and Add to Home Screen. This will basically turn your PFStats page into an iPhone app.

The really nice thing about creating a mobile web app like PFStats rather than a native application (iPhone app, Android app, etc) is that as I mentioned before, this will work on nearly any smartphone and I can also do updates to it and they’ll show up live on all of those phones immediately without any need for you to update. As I continue to get feedback on the new app I will be making changes and updates as needed.

So, what do you think? :)

Easy Mobile Design with jQuery Mobile ThemeRoller

There is a lot of money to be made with affiliate marketing and mobile traffic. More and more mobile ad networks are popping up each week because there is just such much mobile traffic out there! The traffic is cheap and the marketers grabbing it the earliest are going to be the ones making the most money. I’ve been pushing mobile traffic on and off for about two years now and have had some really successful campaigns. The trick with mobile traffic is that you need to have a mobile optimized landing page. Sure, some offers that are not mobile optimized are working okay with mobile traffic, but if you want to really profit you will need to create a page that is specifically set up for the mobile traffic. Creating those pages is easy with jQuery Mobile and designing those pages is even easier with the new jQuery Mobile ThemeRoller.

jQuery Mobile ThemeRoller

With the new jQuery Mobile ThemeRoller it is super simple to make your own themes for your jQuery Mobile page. It took me about a minute to put the examples above together. You can drag and drop colors into the areas you want to update or manually change the color and design settings with the ThemRoller design wizard. Once your masterpiece is complete you can download the theme files to your computer and upload them to your site! If you decide later you want to make some changes you can easily import the designs as well.

With the new jQuery Mobile ThemeRoller and the official release of jQuery Mobile 1.0 there is no reason you should not be pushing mobile traffic. Setting up a mobile optimized page is easy and can be done within a few minutes. Put your page together, buy some traffic, and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about! Create a Mobile Optimized Landing Page

Over the past year or so the focus of a lot of affiliate marketers has been drawn towards mobile marketing. It seems that OfferVault is having a new webinar every other week on different aspects of mobile marketing, but what a lot of people do not understand is that it is not as easy as simply signing up at AdMob or InMobi and pushing 10,000 clicks to your favorite e-mail submit. That simply does not convert. Instead, a better option is to create your own mobile optimized landing page and pushing traffic to the offer through that. This gives you more options and control over what your visitor is seeing. I have found that the best and easiest way to do this is to create a page using jQuery Mobile.

jQuery Mobile

With jQuery Mobile it is easy for anyone to create a mobile optimized page.  The framework for this is built on top of jQuery, which is a very popular javascript library and gets a ton of support from large companies (Google, Dell, Bank of America, MLB.com, etc). So, how can you implement this into your affiliate marketing efforts?

I have tested two different methods. With the first, I simply created a jQuery Mobile page that featured a title (ex: Win an iPad!), a banner in the main content area explaining to the user how they could win an iPad, and then a call to action button.

The other method I used was to simply create a form and captured the user’s e-mail. Forms are pretty easy to put together with jQuery Mobile and they look great. Check out their demo for more information.

Basic jQuery Mobile Template

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
	<head>
	<title>Page Title</title>
	<link rel="stylesheet"  href="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.0a4/jquery.mobile-1.0a4.min.css" />
	<script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.5.min.js"></script>
	<script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.0a4/jquery.mobile-1.0a4.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>

<div data-role="page">

	<div data-role="header">
		<h1>Page Title</h1>
	</div><!-- /header -->

	<div data-role="content">
		<p>Page content goes here.</p>
	</div><!-- /content -->

	<div data-role="footer">
		<h4>Page Footer</h4>
	</div><!-- /footer -->
</div><!-- /page -->

</body>
</html>

This is the basic template HTML code for each page you create. It will look like this on an iPhone and similar mobile devices.

Be Creative!

We have had thousands of publishers sign up at PeerFly who are pushing traffic through mobile ad networks. We have found our e-mail and zip submit offers seem to do best with this type of traffic, but it’s important that you be creative when promoting them. Simply direct linking does not profit, so you will need to test different mobile optimized landing pages to see what does.
